Okay, so I needed to get to Wattay Airport in Vientiane, Laos. First, I checked out a few options for getting there. I could grab a taxi, hop on a local bus, or maybe even rent a motorbike.

I decided to go with a taxi because, you know, luggage and all that. Easier to just throw everything in the trunk and go.

Finding a ride

Finding one was the key.

  • I Stepped out of my guesthouse.
  • Immediately, a couple of taxi drivers approached.
  • One of the drivers looked really friendly and asked me where i was going.

Negotiating the Price: This is important in Laos. You gotta haggle a bit. The first price they offered was a little high, so I countered with a lower offer. We went back and forth a couple of times, and finally settled on a price I thought was fair. You know do not be shy to speak out loud, that is the culture.

The Ride Itself

  • I hopped in.
  • The driver was very friendly and told me about the city.
  • I asked him where to get the best food, and he recommended me two places.

The ride itself was pretty smooth. The roads weren’t too bad, and we got to the airport in good time. Nothing super exciting, just a regular taxi ride, really.

Arriving at Wattay Airport

  • We arrived at the airport, and the driver pulled right up to the departures area.
  • I paid him the agreed-upon fare, and thanked for this ride.
  • I got my luggage out of the trunk.

And that was it! Made it to the airport, no problem. Just a standard taxi ride, but hey, sometimes that’s all you need, right? Getting around Vientiane is easy, but just always remember to negotiate the price beforehand, that is the main point of today!
