My Journey with Bow Shaped Lips

Alright, let’s talk about this whole bow-shaped lip thing. It wasn’t something I woke up one day deciding I absolutely needed. It kinda snuck up on me. I started noticing it more, you know, in pictures, maybe on some actresses. Looked quite distinct, that little dip in the middle, the ‘M’ shape on the top lip.

So, I decided to give it a try myself. Didn’t really know where to start. First thing I did was grab whatever lip liner I had lying around. Usually just used it to trace my natural lip line. This time, I tried to, like, create that sharper dip. Stood in front of the mirror, pencil in hand, trying to draw that ‘M’.

Honestly? First few attempts were a disaster. Looked totally fake. One side would be higher, or the dip would be too deep, making me look permanently surprised or something. I’d draw it on, stare for a bit, then wipe it all off. Got a bit frustrated, not gonna lie. It seemed so simple when you saw it done.

I kept messing around with it though, usually before washing my face at night. Didn’t want to walk around looking weird. Here’s what I started figuring out through just plain trial and error:

  • Found that using a liner just slightly darker than my lipstick helped define the shape without being too obvious.
  • Learned not to overdraw the whole lip line. The key seemed to be focusing just on enhancing that Cupid’s bow area, the very center top lip.
  • I started by marking the two high points of the ‘M’ first, then drawing the little ‘V’ shape connecting them downwards into the dip. Seemed easier to get it symmetrical that way.
  • Then, I’d gently fill in the rest of the lip line, connecting those peaks down to the outer corners.

Filling it in was another step. I realized using a slightly lighter lipstick shade inside the lines, especially in the center, made the shape pop a bit more. It’s like a subtle highlighting effect, I guess. Didn’t use anything fancy, just played with the lipsticks I already owned.

It took practice. Lots of wiping off and starting again. Some days it looked better than others. It wasn’t about drastically changing my lip shape, more like enhancing what was already there, giving it that little bit of definition in the center.

So yeah, that’s been my process. No magic tricks, just a bit of experimenting in front of the bathroom mirror. Found a way that works for me, most days anyway. It’s subtle, but I kinda like the look now. Just another little thing I figured out how to do over time.
