Okay, so I’ve been trying to cut down on waste at home, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a journey! I started small, just kinda looking around and thinking, “Where can I make some changes?”

Getting Started
First, I focused on the kitchen. That’s where I figured most of our trash was coming from.
- I switched to reusable grocery bags. I keep them in my car, so I don’t forget them.
- I Started bringing my reusable coffee cup for the morning coffee.
- I started using reusable containers instead of plastic wrap or foil for leftovers. Those glass ones with the snap-on lids? Lifesavers!
- And, oh man, the produce bags! I got some mesh ones, so I’m not using those thin plastic bags at the grocery store anymore.
Tackling Food Waste
Food waste was a big one. I used to throw away so much stuff that had gone bad. It’s embarrassing, really.
- So, I started planning my meals better. I make a list before I go shopping, and I try to stick to it.
- I’m also getting better at using up leftovers. I’ll make a big batch of soup or chili and freeze some for later.
- I try to do the “first in, first out” that I read about it, using the older ingredients before the newer ones.
Other Changes
It’s not just about the kitchen, though. I’m trying to be more mindful in other areas, too.
- I switched to using a reusable water bottle instead of buying bottled water all the time.
- Always carry a small bag with everything I may use.
- I’m trying to buy things with less packaging. Like, I’ll choose the loose apples instead of the ones in a plastic bag.
- And I started composting! It’s actually pretty easy, and it’s great for the garden (if I had one, haha, I use the public compost bin).
The Results (So Far)
Honestly, I’m pretty surprised by how much of a difference these small changes have made. I’m taking out the trash way less often, and I feel good about doing my part. It’s not perfect, and I’m still learning, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction. I even feel like I’m saving a bit of money, too, which is always a bonus!
It’s been a process, with some trial and error, but I’m sticking with it! Every little bit helps, right?
