Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try some new recipes, and I stumbled upon North Sudanese food. I didn’t know much about it, so I decided to dive in and see what I could make.
Research Time
First things first, I needed to do some research. I started Googling and found a few dishes that sounded interesting. Honestly, a lot of the ingredients were new to me, so I had to spend some time figuring out what they were and where to find them.
Grocery Shopping Adventure
Next up, the grocery store! This was a bit of an adventure. I ended up going to a couple of different stores to find everything I needed. Some of the spices were tricky to locate, but I eventually tracked them down. I definitely felt like I was on a treasure hunt!
Cooking Time
Finally, it was time to start cooking. I decided to try making a dish called “Ful Medames” which is, like, a fava bean stew. It seemed pretty straightforward, and the recipe I found looked manageable, even for a beginner like me.
- I started by soaking the dried fava beans overnight.
- The next day, I boiled them until they were tender.
- Then, I add the spices such as salt, paper, cumin.
- In the meantime I preped other ingredients such as fresh onion, tomatoes and parsley.
- Finally, I mashed some of the beans to thicken the stew, and added some lemon juice, olive oil, the preped ingerdients and let it all simmer together.
Taste Test
The Ful Medames stew turned out surprisingly delicious, it’s really good! The flavors were really interesting, and the spices were nice and subtle. I love that I can taste different favor in just one dish, amazing!
I’m definitely going to try making more North Sudanese dishes.
It was a fun experiment, and I’m excited to learn more about this type of cuisine. Plus, it’s always cool to expand your cooking skills and try something new, right?
