Okay, so I’ve been trying to cut down on plastic, you know, for the planet and stuff. It’s tough, especially when you’re traveling. But I gave this “plastic-free travel” thing a shot on my last trip, and I wanted to share how it went – the good, the bad, and the kinda awkward.

Getting Ready

First, I packed my own stuff. Like, everything. I grabbed my trusty reusable water bottle – that was a no-brainer. Then I found a bamboo toothbrush and one of those solid shampoo bars. I even packed some beeswax wraps for snacks, instead of using plastic baggies.

  • Reusable water bottle
  • Bamboo toothbrush
  • Solid shampoo bar
  • Beeswax wraps
  • Metal straw
  • Reusable shopping bag
  • My own cutlery (fork, spoon, knife)

I also added my metal straw into my bag.

On the Road (and in the Air)

Airports are plastic minefields, let me tell you. But I managed to refill my water bottle after security, so that was a win. On the plane, I refused the plastic-wrapped snacks and just ate the stuff I’d brought. I felt a little smug, not gonna lie.

When I arrived,I found a place with package-free options, so I stocked up on some essentials. It took a little extra effort, but it felt good to avoid all that single-use plastic.

Eating Out

This was probably the trickiest part. I tried to choose restaurants that seemed eco-conscious, but it wasn’t always easy. Sometimes I had to explain why I didn’t want a plastic straw or a plastic bag for my leftovers. Most people were cool about it, but I definitely got a few weird looks.

I brought my own container and ask them to use my container to pack the food,at first they refused, but after my requesting, they accepted.

The Results

So, did I achieve 100% plastic-free travel? Nope. It’s REALLY hard. But I definitely reduced my plastic footprint by a lot. I learned that it’s all about being prepared and making conscious choices. It’s not always convenient, but it’s worth it. And hey, every little bit helps, right?

I felt happy about what I did!
