Okay, so the other day I decided to check out Vereda del Lago in Maracaibo, Venezuela. I’d heard it was a nice place to spend an afternoon, and, well, I was in the area.

First, I looked up some info online. Nothing too fancy, just wanted to get a general idea of what to expect. Seemed like a big park, with walkways, lake views, that sort of thing.
Getting there was…an experience. Let’s just say public transport in Maracaibo is always an adventure. I hopped on a “por puesto” – basically, a shared taxi – and held on tight. We zipped through the city, dodging potholes and other vehicles like it was an Olympic sport.
Once I arrived, I was immediately struck by the sheer size of the park. It’s huge! People were walking, jogging, cycling, rollerblading – you name it. There were families picnicking, kids playing, and couples strolling hand-in-hand. A very lively atmosphere.
I started my own walk, just taking it all in. The lake, Lake Maracaibo, is massive. You can barely see the other side. I paused a few times to just watch the boats go by and enjoy the breeze.
- Plenty of shade, which is crucial in Maracaibo’s heat.
- Lots of benches to sit and relax.
- Vendors selling snacks and drinks. (I grabbed a “cepillado,” a kind of shaved ice. Delicious!)
- Even a few playgrounds for the kids.
I spent a good couple of hours just wandering around, people-watching, and soaking up the atmosphere. I even saw some guys playing dominoes – a classic Venezuelan pastime. It was a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

My Overall Impression
It is pretty good. The Vereda del Lago is perfect for a relaxing afternoon. Just go, find a spot, and enjoy. Simple as that.
