Okay, so I wanted to get some really good family pictures this year. Not just the usual snapshots, you know? I wanted something special, something we could all look back on fondly.

Getting Everyone On Board
First thing I did was get the family together. This was a bit of a mission, I must say! My oldest, well, he’s a teenager, so getting him excited about anything other than his phone is like pulling teeth. But I managed it. We sat down, and I told them my idea – let’s make this year’s family photos something to remember.
Brainstorming Ideas
We started throwing around ideas. Should we do something outdoorsy? Maybe a picnic in the park? Or something a bit more formal, like in a studio? I even suggested a themed shoot, like everyone dressed up in 1920s outfits. My youngest loved that idea, but the teenager just rolled his eyes. Teenagers, right?
- Outdoorsy – like a hike or a day at the beach.
- Formal – everyone dressed up nice.
- Themed – could be anything, really!
Choosing a Location
After a lot of back and forth, we decided to go with a local park. It has this beautiful old bridge, a pond with ducks, and plenty of trees. Figured it would give us a lot of variety for the photos. Plus, it’s a place we all enjoy, so it felt right.
Picking Outfits
This was a whole other adventure. I didn’t want us to be too matchy-matchy, but I also wanted us to look like we belonged together, you know? I ended up suggesting a color palette – blues and greens. Everyone got to pick out their own outfits within that range. It worked out pretty well, I think.
The Day of the Shoot
Finally, the day arrived. We got to the park, and thankfully, the weather was perfect. Sunny, but not too hot. We spent a good couple of hours just walking around, finding different spots to take pictures. I snapped away, trying to capture those candid moments, the laughter, the silly faces. My teenager even cracked a smile a few times!

The Results
I have to say, the photos turned out great! We got a good mix of posed shots and candid ones. There’s one of us all sitting on the bridge that I just love. And another one of the kids chasing the ducks – it’s hilarious. I’m so glad we put the effort in. These are definitely family pictures we’ll treasure for years to come.
It wasn’t always easy, but it was definitely worth it. And who knows, maybe we’ll even do a themed shoot next year!
