Okay, so I’ve always been a bit of a market junkie, and outdoor markets? They’re my jam. Recently, I hit up Colombia, and let me tell you, the market scene there is something else. I planned this whole thing out, like, really meticulously. Wanted to hit all the good spots, you know?
First off, I did a bunch of research online. Looked up all those “Top 5” lists and travel blogs, trying to figure out which markets were actually worth my time. It was a bit overwhelming, honestly, with all the suggestions flying around. I mean, everyone’s got their own opinion, right? Hitting the Ground Running
Once I landed in Colombia, I was ready to go. First market on my list was this huge one in Bogotá. I hopped on a bus, crammed in with a bunch of locals – quite the experience, let me tell you. I got a bit lost finding the place, but eventually I found it. It was like stepping into another world. So many colors, smells, sounds… it was a sensory overload, in the best way possible.
I spent hours just wandering around, checking out all the stalls. They had everything – fresh produce, handmade crafts, clothes, you name it. I even tried some of the street food. Not sure what it was, but it was delicious! Definitely worth a few upset stomach, I guess.
Moving On
After Bogotá, I headed to some smaller towns. Each one had its own unique market, each with its own vibe. Some were more focused on food, others on crafts. I picked up a few souvenirs along the way – a colorful woven bag, some hand-painted pottery. Stuff you just can’t find back home, you know?
- One market was in this tiny little village, and it was mostly just locals selling their produce. It felt super authentic, like I was getting a real glimpse into Colombian life.
- Another one was in a bigger town, and it was more touristy, but still fun. Lots of handmade jewelry and stuff. I bartered for a silver ring, felt pretty proud of myself for getting a good deal.
Wrapping It Up
By the end of my trip, I was exhausted, but in that good way, you know? Like I’d really experienced something special. I came away with a suitcase full of goodies, a ton of photos, and a whole lot of memories. The whole experience was unforgettable. This trip really showed me the heart of Colombia, its people, and their vibrant culture. It’s something I’ll always cherish, and I’m already dreaming of going back someday.
