Okay, guys, let’s talk about my little adventure trying to find the BEST European festivals for traditional dances. I’ve always been fascinated by folk dances, the costumes, the music… the whole vibe! So, I decided to do some digging and, well, it turned into a bit of a rabbit hole.

First, I fired up my trusty laptop and hit Google. I just typed in something super basic like “traditional European dance festivals”. You wouldn’t believe the amount of stuff that popped up! It was overwhelming, to say the least.

I started clicking through websites, one after another. Some were helpful, with lists and dates and photos. Others… not so much. Let’s just say some websites looked like they were designed back in the ’90s and hadn’t been updated since!

Sifting Through the Mess

I spent a good few hours just browsing, making a HUGE list of potential festivals. I wrote down names, locations, and any dates I could find. My notebook looked like a chaotic mess, honestly. I had scribbles everywhere!

Then, it was time to narrow things down.

I was thinking, that It would be good to choose several festivals in diffrent countries.

  • I checked out some travel blogs. You know, those ones with gorgeous photos and people talking about their “amazing experiences”? Yeah, those. I figured they might have some firsthand accounts of these festivals.
  • I also looked at some forums. Reddit can be a goldmine for this kind of stuff. Real people sharing their opinions, both good and bad. That’s what I wanted – the unfiltered truth!
  • I compared my initial list with the info from the blogs and forums. Some festivals got crossed off pretty quickly. Either they weren’t really focused on traditional dance, or people said they were super crowded and touristy. No thanks!

After all that, I ended up with a much shorter, more manageable list. I felt like I’d actually accomplished something! It wasn’t just a random collection of names anymore; it was a curated selection of festivals that seemed genuinely interesting and authentic. I haven’t been able to attend any of them just yet, I’m getting older so I better get on it! I plan on attending at least one of these traditional folk dance festivals and I’ll be sure to share more then.
