Okay, so today I decided to tackle making a good ol’ cheesedog. Nothing fancy, just something satisfying.

Getting Started

First thing, I went to the store. Grabbed a pack of decent hot dogs, nothing too cheap, you know? Also picked up some standard hot dog buns. For the cheese, I just got some pre-sliced cheddar because, honestly, I couldn’t be bothered with grating today. Sometimes easy is better.

Cooking the Dogs

Back home, I fired up the stove. I like my hot dogs pan-fried sometimes, gives them a nice little crisp. So, I threw them in a pan over medium heat. Rolled them around a bit so they cooked evenly. Took maybe 5-7 minutes? Just until they looked plump and slightly browned. While they were cooking, I got the buns ready.

Prepping the Buns and Cheese

I decided to toast the buns lightly. Just popped them open and put them face down in another clean, dry pan on low heat for a minute or two. Makes a difference, stops them from getting soggy right away. Then I took the hot dogs off the heat. Grabbed a slice of that cheddar for each dog.

Assembly Time

Alright, here’s the main event. I put a cooked hot dog into each toasted bun. Then, I laid a slice of cheddar right over the top of the hot dog. Now, the cheese needs melting, right?

Melting the Cheese

I tried a couple of ways before, but today I just popped them onto a baking sheet and stuck them under the broiler for like, 30 seconds. Seriously, watch it like a hawk because it goes fast. Just wanted that cheese to get gooey and melty, not burnt. Pulled them out as soon as the cheese looked right.

The Final Product

And that was basically it. Took maybe 15 minutes total? They looked pretty good, nice melted cheese dripping a bit. I didn’t add anything else today, no ketchup, no mustard, just wanted that simple hot dog and cheese flavour. Sat down and ate them while they were hot. Job done. Simple, quick, and hit the spot.
