Okay, so I finally made it to Split. Heard a lot about Bacvice beach, figured I had to check it out myself.

Getting There

It wasn’t far from where I was staying, actually. Decided to just walk it. Took me maybe 15, 20 minutes? Nice little stroll, got to see a bit more of the area outside the main old town buzz.

First Look

So I get there, and yeah, it’s sandy. Which, if you’ve been around Croatia, you know is kinda rare. Most beaches are pebbles or rocks. Bacvice is this big crescent of sand, packed with people. It was pretty lively, lots of families, groups of friends. The water looked really shallow near the shore.

What I Did

First thing, found a spot to drop my towel. It was crowded, gotta say. Had to squeeze in a bit. Then I just watched for a while. You see these guys playing a game in the shallow water, hitting a small ball around, trying to keep it from hitting the water. Learned later it’s called Picigin. Looked like fun, but also kinda frantic. Those guys were diving all over the place.

I did go for a dip. The water was nice, pretty warm actually. And yeah, it stays shallow for quite a way out, which I guess is good for families and that game they play. Didn’t swim too far, just cooled off mostly.

After swimming, I just laid back on my towel. Tried to sunbathe a bit, but it was pretty busy, lots of action around. You’ve got:

  • People walking by constantly.
  • Kids shouting and splashing.
  • That Picigin game always drawing attention.

Grabbed a cold drink from one of the cafes right there on the beach promenade. Pricey, as you’d expect, but needed something cold. Sat there for a bit, just people-watching again.

Final Thoughts

So, Bacvice beach. Was it the best beach ever? Nah, probably not. It’s super busy, kinda noisy. But it’s got a unique vibe, you know? It’s famous for a reason. That sandy bottom and the Picigin, it’s different. Definitely an experience. Glad I went to see it. It’s like a city beach, right in the thick of things. If you want peace and quiet, this ain’t it. But if you want to see where the locals hang out and play their strange ball game, yeah, give it a look. I spent a few hours there, that was enough for me. Saw what it was all about, got a bit of sun, ticked it off the list.
