So, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I get around and the impact it has on the planet. I decided to get serious about eco-friendly transportation, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey!
My Starting Point: The Gas Guzzler
First, I had to be honest with myself. My main mode of transport? My old car. It was convenient, sure, but definitely not doing the environment any favors. I started by tracking my mileage and gas consumption, just to get a baseline. Seeing those numbers in black and white was a real wake-up call.
Exploring My Options
Next, I looked into the alternatives. I live in a city, so thankfully, I have options:
- Biking: Seemed like a no-brainer, good exercise, and zero emissions.
- Public Transportation: Buses and trains – definitely better than driving alone.
- Walking: For shorter distances, this is the ultimate eco-friendly option.
- Electric Scooter: looked the function and funny.
The Experiment Begins
I decided to try a week of each option, just to see what worked best for my lifestyle.
The first week was all about biking. I dusted off my old bike, pumped up the tires, and hit the road. It was tougher than I remembered! Hills were a killer, and I definitely arrived at work a bit sweaty. But, I felt great, and I saved a bunch on gas.
Public transportation was next. I downloaded the local transit app, figured out the routes, and embraced the bus life. It was surprisingly relaxing not having to worry about traffic. Plus, I could catch up on reading during my commute.

Walking was great for those quick trips to the grocery store or the coffee shop. It was a nice way to slow down and appreciate my neighborhood.
I also rented electric scooter. It’s very convenient and enviromental-friendly!
The Results (and Some Setbacks)
After a few weeks of experimenting, I started to see a pattern. Biking was fantastic for my health and the environment, but not always practical for longer distances or bad weather. Public transportation was a solid option for my daily commute, and walking filled in the gaps for shorter trips. and the electric scooter is very convenient for me to go anywhere in anytime!
It wasn’t all smooth sailing. There were days when I was running late and jumped in my car out of habit. But I tried not to beat myself up about it. The key was to be mindful and make the best choice I could in each situation.
Making it a Habit
Now, I’m working on making eco-friendly transportation a permanent part of my life. I invested in a good quality bike and some rain gear. I pre-load my transit card to make it easier to hop on the bus or train. And I keep my walking shoes by the door as a reminder to choose my feet whenever * I bought a electric scooter.

It’s a work in progress, but I’m already feeling good about the changes I’ve made. I’m saving money, getting more exercise, and most importantly, reducing my impact on the planet. It’s a win-win-win!
