Okay, so I’ve been trying to be more mindful of what I eat, and that includes getting down to the nitty-gritty of calorie counting. Today’s little experiment? Figuring out the calories in a small avocado. I mean, avocados are good for you, right? But everything in moderation, as they say.

Getting Started
First, I grabbed a small avocado from the fruit bowl. It felt a little ripe, perfect for what I needed. I have this kitchen scale, a digital one, which has been a good tool for my diet.
Weighing the Avocado
- I turned on the scale and made sure it was set to grams.
- Then, I placed the whole avocado on the scale. The weight showed up, for whole small avocado with seed and skin.
Finding the Edible Part
But let’s be real, I’m not eating the skin or the pit. So, I sliced the avocado in half, scooped out the pit, and then scooped out the good stuff – the flesh. I put just the flesh back on the scale. This is the important number because this is what I’m actually eating.
Doing Some Quick Math
The weight of flesh part of the small avocado was around 70 to 80 grams, I did two time experiments.
I remember reading somewhere(I googled) that avocados have about 1.6 calories per gram, give or take. It’s not an exact science because, you know, nature isn’t always precise.
First time, 70 grams 1.6 calories/gram = 112 calories.

Second time, 80 grams 1.6 calories/gram = 128 calories.
The Bottom Line
So, there you have it. A small avocado, the part you actually eat, is roughly around 110 to 130 calories. It’s not nothing, but considering all the good fats and nutrients you’re getting, it feels like a worthwhile snack or addition to my meal. I feel pretty good about this little investigation – knowing what I’m eating helps me make better choices, and that’s what counts, right?
