Okay, so today I decided to mess around with creating a 3D model of a shoe. I’ve dabbled in 3D modeling before, but it’s not really my forte. Still, I figured, why not give it a shot? It seemed like a fun little project.

Then, I opened up my 3D modeling software. I’m using a free one I found online, nothing fancy. I started by creating a basic cube shape. This was going to be the foundation for the whole shoe, so I knew I’d be sculpting it quite a bit.

I spent a good chunk of time just pushing and pulling vertices around. It’s kind of like working with digital clay. I kept referencing the images, trying to match the curves and proportions of the shoe. The toe area was particularly tricky – getting that smooth, rounded shape took some finesse.

Next, I worked on the sole. I created another, flatter box shape and positioned it underneath the main body of the shoe. Then, I used the software’s tools to kind of “blend” the two shapes together, making it look like one continuous piece. It’s not perfect, but it’s starting to resemble a shoe!

I then added some details, like the little indentations on the sole for grip, and a separate piece for the heel. These were pretty simple shapes, mostly just cylinders and flattened cubes. The key was getting them positioned and scaled correctly.

Honestly, I got a little stuck trying to create shoelaces. I tried a few different methods, but they all looked kind of clunky and unrealistic. I might need to watch some tutorials on that later. For now, I just left the shoe laceless.

Finally, I applied some basic colors and materials. I went with a simple red for the main body and white for the sole. Nothing fancy, just enough to give it some visual appeal.

My Final Thoughts

It’s definitely not a professional-quality model, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, especially for a quick project. It took me a few hours of messing around, and there are definitely things I’d do differently next time. Like I said, those laces are a problem! But overall, it was a fun way to practice my 3D modeling skills, and I actually learned a few things along the way. Maybe I’ll try modeling a different type of shoe next!
