Alright, so yesterday I set out to make a map of Cinque Terre. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, let me tell you, it turned into a bit of an adventure.

First, I gathered all my tools. I grabbed my laptop, found some good map-making websites, and even dusted off my old colored pencils – just in case I wanted to get fancy. I started by looking at some existing maps online, just to get a feel for the area. You know, where each of the five towns is located, the general layout of the hiking trails, that sort of thing.
Then came the tricky part. I wanted my map to be useful, but also kind of pretty. I decided to use a digital map as a base. There are a bunch of websites out there that let you do this, and they’re pretty easy to use. I zoomed in on the Cinque Terre area, played around with the different styles until I found one I liked.
- I started adding markers for each of the towns: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore.
- I drew lines to represent the main hiking trails connecting them.
- And I added little icons for things like train stations, viewpoints, and maybe a few of my favorite gelato spots – because priorities, right?
Once I had the basics down, I started thinking about how to make it more personal. I remembered a few special spots from my trip there a while back, like that hidden little beach near Manarola, or the amazing restaurant in Corniglia with the best pesto. So, I marked those on the map too, with little notes to remind myself why they were special.
Finally, I printed out the map. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine. And every time I look at it, it brings back memories of that amazing place. Plus, it’ll be super handy if I ever get to go back, which I definitely hope to do someday!
Oh, and for those of you who are thinking about making your own map, here are a few things I learned along the way:

- Start with a clear purpose. Are you making this map for practical use, or is it more of a keepsake?
- Don’t be afraid to experiment. There are tons of different tools and styles out there, so have fun with it!
- Most importantly, make it your own. Add your personal touches and memories to make it truly special.
It’s worth it!
In the end, I had a personalized Cinque Terre map that I made myself. Happy mapping, everyone!
