Alright, so last weekend I decided to check out the nightlife in Montevideo. I’d heard some good things, and, you know, I’m always up for exploring a new city after dark.

Getting Started
First, I did a little digging online. Just a quick search to see what kind of places were popular. I found some mentions of a few different areas, like Pocitos and Ciudad Vieja. I’m not big on super crowded clubs, so I was looking for something a little more laid-back, maybe with some live music.
Tip: I asked around and get some info on different types of places.
The Exploration Phase
I started out in Pocitos, which seemed like a pretty lively area. I walked around for a bit, just checking out the vibe. There were a bunch of bars and restaurants, some with outdoor seating, which is always a plus. I noticed a few places with music spilling out onto the street, so I made a mental note to come back later.
- Strolled through Pocitos, checking out bars and restaurants.
- Noticed some live music venues.
- Made mental notes for later exploration.
Ciudad Vieja Adventures
Later, I headed over to Ciudad Vieja, the Old City. It definitely had a different feel – more historic, with cobblestone streets and older buildings. I found a couple of cool-looking bars tucked away in alleys. One place had a jazz band playing, which was exactly what I was looking for. I grabbed a drink and just soaked in the atmosphere. It wasn’t super crowded, and the music was great.
- Explored the historic Ciudad Vieja.
- Discovered hidden bars in alleys.
- Enjoyed live jazz music at a cozy venue.
The Late-Night Scene
After the jazz bar, I wandered around Ciudad Vieja a bit more. I noticed some places were starting to get busier, with people lining up outside. I’m not really into waiting in line, so I skipped those. I did find another smaller bar with a DJ playing some chill electronic music. It was a good spot to end the night, have another drink, and just people-watch.

Wrapping Up
Overall, I had a pretty good time checking out the Montevideo nightlife. Ciudad Vieja was definitely my favorite – it had a more relaxed and unique vibe than Pocitos, which felt a bit more generic. I’d definitely recommend checking out both areas, though, just to see what suits your taste. Just walk around, explore, and don’t be afraid to pop into a place that looks interesting. You never know what you might find!
