Okay, so last night I tried to take some pictures of the stars. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, but I figured it out eventually. Here’s how it went down:
Finding a Dark Spot
First, I drove out of the city. You can’t really see many stars with all the lights around. I went to this park I know, it’s pretty far out and usually super dark at night.
Setting Up My Camera
Next, I got my camera all set up. I used a tripod because you need the camera to be really still. I messed around with the settings for a bit. I increased iso, widened aperture, and slowed shutter speed.
- ISO: I cranked this up. Higher ISO means the camera is more sensitive to light.
- Aperture: I opened this up as wide as it would * also use f/2.8.
- Shutter Speed: I set this to a slow speed ,around 20 seconds.
Focusing (The Hard Part!)
This was the trickiest part. It was so dark, my camera’s autofocus was just freaking out. So, I switched to manual focus.I zoomed in all the way and just kept turning the focus ring until the stars looked like tiny, sharp points instead of blurry blobs.
Taking the Pictures
Finally, I started taking pictures! I used the self-timer so I wouldn’t shake the camera when I pressed the button. I took a bunch of shots, changing the settings a little bit each time to see what worked best.
Checking the Results
I checked the pictures on the camera’s screen, and wow! It was so cool to see all those stars, way more than I could see with my own eyes. Most of them were out of focus. Luckily, there are a few nice photos.I’ll need to edit them a bit later to make them look even better, but it was a really fun experiment.
It definitely took some trial and error, but it was totally worth it. Next time, I’ll try to find an even darker spot and maybe try to capture some star trails!
