Okay, so the other day I was getting ready for my trip, and I started thinking about how to keep my passport safe. I mean, it’s like the most important thing you carry when you’re traveling internationally, right?

Getting Started: Making Copies
First things first, I made a couple of copies of my passport’s ID page. You know, the one with your picture and all the important details. I made sure the copies were clear and easy to read.
I kept one copy in my carry-on bag, separate from my actual passport. And, I left another copy at home with someone I trust, my sister . Just in case something happened to both my passport and the copy I was carrying, she can help.
During the Trip: Keeping it Safe
Now, while I was traveling, I didn’t just want to keep my passport anywhere. I decided to use a method.
- Money Belt/Hidden Pocket I got myself one of those slim money belts that you wear under your clothes. It’s not super fashionable, but it’s definitely secure. And Most of time I stored my passport into that.
When I was at the hotel, I didn’t want to carry my passport around all the time either.
- Hotel Safe: If the hotel room had a safe, I used it.I stored the passport *, I always double-checked to make sure the safe was actually bolted down and not just some box sitting on a shelf.I’ve heard stories, you know?
- Reception Safe:Some smaller hotels don’t have in-room safes. In this case, you can stored the passport into reception safe.
Extra Precautions: Just in Case
So, besides the copies and the hiding spots, I took a few extra steps. They might seem a little over the top, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

- Digital Copy: I also scanned my passport and saved it to my phone. I made sure the file was password-protected, just in case my phone got lost or stolen. I also upload to cloud disk.
- Be Aware: I made sure to stay alert in crowded places like markets or train stations. Those are prime spots for pickpockets. I kept my bag close and zipped, and I tried not to flash my passport around.
- Don’t Keep it in Your Back Pocket!:Seriously, that’s just asking for * to be stolen.
I followed all of these and my passport was *’s really important to protect your passport, but it’s not that hard. Just takes a little planning and some common sense.
