Okay, so I’ve been trying to be a bit more eco-conscious lately, and I thought I’d share some of the stuff I’ve been doing. It’s nothing crazy, but every little bit helps, right?
Getting Started with Composting
First up, I started composting. I know, it sounds kinda gross, but it’s actually pretty cool. I got a small compost bin for my kitchen and a bigger one for the backyard.
- Collected food scraps: I started saving all my fruit and veggie scraps, coffee grounds, and eggshells.
- Layered the compost: In the backyard bin, I alternated between “green” stuff (like the food scraps) and “brown” stuff (like dried leaves and twigs).
- Turned the compost: Every few days, I mixed it all up with a shovel to help it decompose faster.
It is still undergoing decomposing, after some time, I should have some awesome compost for my plants!
Reusable Everything!
Then, I focused on reducing waste. This was simple,
I switched to reusable stuff whenever possible.
- Switched to Water bottles.I always forget to bring it with me.

Shopping bags: I keep a bunch of reusable bags in my car, so I use them when I go shopping.

Food containers: Instead of using plastic wrap or Ziploc bags,I try to store leftovers.
I am still trying to improve these parts.
Recycling Right
And of course, recycling! I’ve always recycled, but I realized I wasn’t always doing it right. So I did a little research.
- Checked local guidelines: I looked up what my city actually accepts for recycling. Turns out, some things I thought were recyclable actually weren’t.
- Cleaned and sorted: I made sure to rinse out containers and separate paper, plastic, and glass.
It’s a work in progress, but I’m feeling good about making these small changes. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about trying to do better, you know? And maybe inspiring others along the way!
