Okay, so the title is a bit much, maybe. But sometimes you just get this feeling, right? Like you’re buzzing inside, gotta do something, gotta change something. Not like that, get your mind out of the gutter. More like… restless. Like you’ve been cooped up too long or working on the same damn thing forever.

I remember this one time, must’ve been a few years back. We were finishing up this massive project at work. Months of late nights, weekends gone, just staring at screens and drinking bad coffee. My brain felt like mush. Seriously fried.

And then it hit me. This weird energy. Like, I needed to just go. Anywhere. Do something completely different. It wasn’t even about relaxing, exactly. It was like a craving. I was just so damn ready for… something else. Anything else.

So what did I do?

  • First, I finished the damn project. Had to. Pushed through the last week like a zombie.
  • Then, the day after we shipped it, I just woke up, packed a small bag. Didn’t even really know where I was going.
  • Told my boss I needed a few days off, like, right now. He was cool about it, thankfully. Probably saw the desperation in my eyes.
  • Ended up just driving. Headed towards the mountains, windows down, music blasting. Didn’t book a hotel, didn’t have a plan.

It felt crazy good. Just the act of moving, of breaking the routine. Found this tiny diner in the middle of nowhere, had the best greasy breakfast ever. Stayed in a cheap motel that night. Next day, did some hiking. Nothing fancy. Just walked until my legs were tired.

That restless feeling? It started to fade. Replaced by just… being tired in a good way. My head cleared up. It wasn’t about running away, I guess. More like hitting a reset button. Needed that change of scenery bad.
