Okay, so I wanted to share something that’s been on my mind lately, a bit of a weird thing I went through. For a few weeks, I kept having these dreams about car accidents.

It wasn’t always the same dream, you know? Sometimes it was me driving, sometimes I was just watching. But the feeling was always there – that sudden shock, the crunching sound, maybe seeing broken glass. Woke me up quite a few times, heart pounding. It wasn’t like watching a movie, it felt really, really real in the moment.

Honestly, it started messing with me during the day. I found myself getting super tense behind the wheel. Like, gripping the steering wheel way too tight, constantly scanning everything, jumping at sudden noises from other cars. My commute started feeling like this big, stressful event, even more than usual. It wasn’t good.

Figuring Things Out

At first, I just brushed it off. Bad dream, whatever. But they kept coming back. So, I had to stop and think, what was I actually doing differently? What was going on? Life was pretty hectic, lots of pressure from work, longer hours. Driving more, too, dealing with heavier traffic.

I figured maybe my brain was just overloaded, trying to process all that stress and maybe some of the actual anxiety from driving in bad traffic. So, I decided to try and tackle it head-on, practically.

  • Adjusted my routine: Started leaving home like 15 minutes earlier. Less rushing, less needing to weave through traffic. Made a surprising difference to how wound-up I felt when I got to work.
  • Changed my driving habits: Consciously tried to relax my grip on the wheel. Put on podcasts or calmer music instead of the frantic morning news radio. Focused on just breathing steady when traffic got bad.
  • Looked at other stuff: Cut down on coffee in the afternoon. Figured maybe too much caffeine was keeping me wired even when I was trying to sleep.

It wasn’t some magic fix, didn’t happen overnight. But slowly, the dreams started fading. They got less intense, less frequent. Now? Haven’t had one in a while, maybe three weeks? Feels like a relief.

Still cautious on the road, obviously, that’s just smart. But that horrible knot of anxiety isn’t there when I drive, and I’m sleeping better. Sometimes, I guess, you don’t need a deep dive into dream meanings. You just need to look at your day-to-day, see what’s stressing you out, and try changing some simple, practical things. Worked for me, anyway.
