Okay, so I needed to use the Genoa airport, Cristoforo Colombo, not too long ago. Flew both in and out through there on a trip.

Getting there for my departure flight was pretty simple. I grabbed the Volabus from the city center. It was quite direct, dropped me right outside the departures area. Didn’t have to fuss much with finding the right spot.
Inside, well, it’s not a massive airport. Felt pretty manageable, actually. Found my airline’s check-in counter without wandering around lost for ages, which is always a plus for me. The queue wasn’t terrible, moved along okay. The staff were doing their job, nothing special, nothing bad either. Just standard procedure.
Security check next. You know how it is. Belts off, liquids out, laptops in the tray. It felt reasonably efficient. Didn’t feel like they were intentionally slow, but it wasn’t lightning fast either. Just average, really. Got through without any hiccups.
The waiting area past security isn’t huge. There are some shops, the usual duty-free stuff, and a few places to grab a coffee or a bite. Honestly, options felt a bit limited, but enough to get by if you need something. Found a seat without too much trouble, but I can imagine it getting crowded during peak times. Prices were typical airport prices, of course. Had a quick espresso.
Boarding was called pretty much on time. Lined up, showed the pass, walked to the plane. Sometimes it’s a bus, sometimes you walk. This time, I think we walked. Pretty straightforward.
Flying In Was Similar
Landing there is quite cool, actually. The airport is right by the sea, built on reclaimed land, I think. So you get this nice view of the water as you come in, which is a neat way to arrive.
Once landed, taxiing wasn’t long. It’s a small place, remember. Disembarked onto the tarmac, quick walk into the terminal building. Passport control, when I needed it on a previous trip, was okay, not too much waiting.
Baggage claim hall is also compact. Found the right belt easily. Waiting for the bags… well, sometimes it’s quick, sometimes it takes a little while. Mine took maybe 15-20 minutes? Not the worst I’ve experienced. Grabbed my suitcase and headed out.
Exiting the arrivals hall is easy. You’re basically straight out to where the taxis and buses are. Found the Volabus stop again to get into the city. Very convenient, right there.
- Easy access to city transport (Volabus).
- Manageable size, easy navigation.
- Cool landing view by the sea.
- Standard procedures, nothing too fancy.
Overall, Genoa airport does what it needs to do. It’s not flashy like some huge international hubs, but it’s functional. Gets you in, gets you out without too much drama. For a city of Genoa’s size, it works fine. Just manage your expectations about shopping or dining options, and you’ll be alright.
