Okay, so I had to figure out this whole French transit visa thing, and let me tell you, it wasn’t exactly a walk in the park at first. But I got through it, and I figured I’d share my experience to maybe save someone else a headache.

Figuring Out If I Even Needed One
First things first, I had to determine if I even needed a transit visa. I was just passing through a French airport on my way to another country, I wasn’t planning on leaving the international zone. After a bit of searching, it became clear, there are general rules, but it also can depend on my nationality and final destination.
Gathering All the Paperwork
Once I confirmed I did need a visa, Next up? The paperwork. Oh, the paperwork! Here’s what I wrangled up:
- My passport: Obviously. Made sure it was valid for at least three months beyond my planned stay.
- Passport photos:Got these done at a place. Make sure you pay attention to the size and background color requirements – they can be picky!
- The application form: Filled this out super carefully. Any mistakes can lead to delays, and nobody wants that.
- Proof of my onward journey:This was my confirmed flight ticket to my final destination, the one after France.
- Proof of accommodation (if applicable): In my case, I did not need it, it’s transit visa.
- Travel insurance:I got a basic policy that covered medical emergencies. Better safe than sorry, right?
- Visa fee payment receipt:Yep, gotta pay to play. The fee can vary, so make sure you check the current amount.
Submitting the Application and waiting.
With everything gathered, I submitted my application. I booked an appointment online and brought all my documents to the visa application center.
I handed everything over, answered a few questions. Honestly, the waiting is the hardest part! It can take a few days or even a few weeks to get a decision. I made sure to apply well in advance of my travel dates, just in case.

Getting the Visa (Finally!)
Eventually, I got the good news – my visa was approved! I went back to the application center, picked up my passport, and there it was, the precious transit visa.
I was so relieved! The whole process felt a bit daunting at first, but breaking it down into steps and staying organized really helped. And now, I can finally relax and enjoy my trip (or at least, the transit part of it!).
