Finally, around the 3-week mark, it moved! Online status jumped to “Processed. Passport dispatched.” Total relief washed over me. Got the passport back via mail a couple days later – VISA INSIDE! Literally danced around the kitchen.

Total timeline from my July 10th appointment to visa in hand: almost exactly 4 weeks. Could I have gotten it faster?
- YES, but ONLY if I got an appointment sooner. That’s the biggest time suck by far. The actual processing started after I handed over my docs on July 10th.
- Forget “official” processing times. For San Francisco, it said “approximately 15 calendar days.” LOL. No.
- My document screw-up? Didn’t seem to cause a big delay, maybe because I wasn’t outright rejected on the spot. Got lucky.
The brutal truth? Book your appointment MONTHS ahead if possible. Like, seriously. That appointment is pure gold. Second, quadruple-check the damn document list. Every tiny detail. Don’t forget something stupid like a utility bill like I almost did. It sounds obvious, but stress makes you stupid. Trust me. Don’t plan any non-refundable travel stuff until you have your visa back. The wait will stress you out, but plan super far ahead, and you should be okay.
