Okay, so I wanted to check out the holidays in Bolivia and see if I could line up my trip with any cool festivals. Here’s how I went about it.

Digging into Bolivian Holidays
First, I started with a broad search, just to get a feel for what’s out there. I typed something like “Bolivian holidays and festivals” into the search engine.
I skimmed through a bunch of websites. Some were helpful, some were just travel ads. I looked for sites that seemed to be focused on Bolivian culture, not just selling tours.
I found a few sites that listed out the major holidays. I noticed that a lot of them are tied to religious events, like Carnival and Easter, but also Indigenous celebrations.
- Alasitas Fair (La Paz): I saw this one pop up a lot. It’s all about miniatures and hoping for good luck. Sounds pretty unique!
- Carnival (Oruro): This seems to be a HUGE deal, with parades and costumes. I figured this would be a crazy, busy time to visit.
- Fiesta del Gran Poder (La Paz):Another big religious festival, I get the vibrant dances from reading it.
- Indigenous New Year (Tiwanaku): This sounded really interesting, celebrating the winter solstice at ancient ruins.
I picked the Alasitas fair and the Indigenous New Year. They are unique to the place, I guess.
Next, I wanted to get a better sense of the vibe of these holidays,I typed in the names of specific holidays, and it really helped me visualize what they’re like.

So, that’s where I’m at! I’ve got a basic list of holidays, a sense of when they are, and a much better idea of what to expect. I’ll definitely keep digging to finalize which day to go, but this was a great starting point!
