Okay, so I’ve been wanting to mess around with creating black and white family photos for a while now. It just feels so… timeless, you know? So, I finally got around to it, and I wanted to share how it all went down.

Gathering the Raw Material

First things first, I dug through my digital photo albums. I’ve got tons of pictures of the kids, the dog, family vacations – the usual stuff. I picked out a handful that I thought had good potential. You know, ones with decent lighting and where everyone looked somewhat presentable (a miracle in itself!).

Choosing the Right Tool

Next, I needed a way to actually convert these to black and white. I thought about using some fancy photo editing software, but honestly, I’m not a pro. I just wanted something simple and straightforward. I remembered I got a default Photos app on my computer , so I just used it.

The Conversion Process

  • I opened up the first photo in Photos.
  • I found the “Edit” option, it is not hard.
  • I clicked “filter” and then chose “B&W”,It’s really easy to find and change the mode.

And that’s it, it becomes a black and white photo, it really looks good.

Tweaking and Refining

But, I do have a try on other mode on the “filter”, and found that not every image will look perfect. I tried some other button to make it better.

  • I played around with the “Light”.
  • I also adjusted the “color”.
  • Sometimes, I added a bit of “Vignette” to give it a more vintage feel.

The Final Result

After messing around with each photo, I finally had a collection of black and white family pictures that I was really happy with. They had that classic, nostalgic vibe I was going for. It’s amazing how simply removing the color can change the whole mood of a photo.
