Flying to Port of Spain Trinidad Airport soon? (Here’s exactly what you need to know first)

Alright, so I wanted to share a bit about my recent trip, specifically about landing in and flying out of the Port of Spain Trinidad airport, Piarco International, they call it. It’s always a bit of a thing, airports, isn’t it? You never quite know what you’re gonna get.

First Impressions and Getting In

So, I finally got there. Stepping off the plane, the first thing that hit me, even before I got to the terminal building properly, was the air. You know, that warm, humid Caribbean air. It wasn’t a shocker, obviously, I knew where I was going, but it was a definite “okay, I’m here” moment.

Walking through to immigration, the building itself, well, it’s an airport. It’s not brand spanking new like some of those massive hubs you see in other places, but it felt functional. The lines for immigration looked a bit daunting at first, I won’t lie. I was thinking, “Here we go, gonna be ages.” But actually, they moved. Not lightning fast, mind you, but steadily. The officers were pretty straightforward, no fuss, just the usual questions. Stamped my passport, and that was that. Relatively painless, which is always a good start.

Baggage Claim and Customs

Then it was on to baggage claim. The carousel started up soon enough. My bag, thankfully, decided to make an appearance without too much drama. I’ve had those trips where you’re the last one standing, staring at an empty belt – not fun. Customs was a breeze too. Handed over my form, quick chat, and they waved me through. I guess I didn’t look like I was smuggling anything too exciting.

The arrivals hall itself was bustling. Lots of people waiting, taxi drivers holding up signs. It had a bit of a lively, slightly chaotic energy, but not in a bad way. Just people coming and going, you know?

The Departure Experience – A Bit Different

Now, leaving Trinidad a while later, that was a bit of a different vibe. Checking in was pretty standard. The airline staff were doing their thing. I always try to get to airports early, just can’t deal with the stress of rushing.

Security was, well, security. Shoes off, laptops out, the whole dance. They were thorough, I’ll give them that. No complaints there, better safe than sorry, right?

Once I was through, I had some time to kill. The departure lounge, it’s okay. There are some shops, duty-free stuff, the usual. I was looking for some decent food options. Here’s what I noticed:

  • The choices for a proper sit-down meal weren’t massive. More like grab-and-go snacks and fast food type places.
  • I did find a spot for a coffee, which was much needed.
  • The seating areas were alright, though it got pretty crowded closer to when the bigger flights were boarding.

Finding a charging spot for my phone was a bit of a mini-adventure, but I managed it in the end. Wi-Fi was there, which is always a plus. It worked, which is an even bigger plus. Sometimes airport Wi-Fi is more trouble than it’s worth.

Overall, Piarco International, the Port of Spain Trinidad airport, it did its job. It got me in, it got me out. It wasn’t the fanciest I’ve ever been to, nor was it the worst. It had a bit of that island character, a bit laid back but things generally worked. You just gotta go with the flow a bit. And that’s pretty much my take on it. Just another chapter in the travel log, really.
