Then, I remembered those flight search engines. These things scour the web, looking at tons of different airlines and travel agencies. They’re supposed to find you the hidden gems, the deals the big sites might miss.
- I tried out a couple of these. The interfaces were a little clunky sometimes, but hey, if it saves me money, I’m in.
- I set up a few alerts, too. You tell them where you want to go and when, and they email you if the price drops. Pretty neat.

Another thing I experimented with was mixing and matching airlines. See, sometimes it’s cheaper to fly one airline to your destination and then a different airline back. The big travel sites don’t always show you these options, but some of the search engines do.
It can be a little more work, booking two separate tickets, but I found some pretty sweet deals that way.
The Results?
So, after all this messing around, did I actually find cheaper flights? You bet! It took some effort, sure, but by using these tools and thinking outside the box a little, I managed to save some serious cash. I won’t say it’s easy, but it’s definitely doable. And for me it works.
