Eco-friendly beach resorts: Top picks for a green vacation!

Okay, so I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how to travel more responsibly. I love a good beach vacation, but I also feel guilty about the environmental impact. So, I decided to dive into this “eco-friendly beach resort” thing and see what it’s all about. Here’s how my little experiment went.

Eco-friendly beach resorts: Top picks for a green vacation!

First, I started with some good old-fashioned Googling. I just typed in stuff like “eco-resorts,” “sustainable beach vacations,” and “environmentally friendly hotels.” It was a bit overwhelming at first, to be honest. Lots of places claim to be eco-friendly, but how do you really know?

So I dug a little deeper. I looked for resorts that had actual certifications. Things like, being built with recycled materials, or using solar power. The key is to find out what a resort is doing.

I also checked out some travel blogs and forums. I figured other people who were into this stuff would have good recommendations. That’s where I found a few names that kept popping up.

  • I started paying attention to things like whether a resort had its own garden, or if they sourced food locally.
  • I also looked for places that were actively involved in protecting the local environment, like maybe they had a sea turtle conservation program or something.
  • I saw some resorts that were really focused on reducing water waste, which is a huge deal in some areas.

Then came the hard part – actually choosing a place! It’s one thing to read about it online, but another to actually book it and hope it lives up to the hype. I finally settled on a smaller resort. I figured a smaller place would probably have a smaller footprint, right?

My experience

When I got there, I was pretty impressed. They use glass water bottles instead of plastic. And they have an actual recycling and compost system.

And the food! It was all so fresh. I even took a little tour of their garden. It felt good knowing that I was supporting a place that was actually trying to do things right.

It wasn’t perfect, of course. There’s always room for improvement. But overall, I felt a lot better about this trip than some of my past vacations. It definitely made me realize that it is possible to travel and still be mindful of the environment. It just takes a little extra effort and research.

It’s an ongoing journey for sure. I am still learning a lot, and there are some other things I want to look into more. But, I think I can plan better now.
