Okay, here’s my personal experience about getting an e-visa for Sri Lanka, hope it helps someone!
So, I decided to take a trip to Sri Lanka, and the first thing on my to-do list was figuring out the visa situation. I heard you could get an e-visa, which sounded way easier than dealing with an embassy. I started by doing some quick research, just to make sure I had the basics down.
The Application Process
I headed over to what looked like the official Sri Lanka ETA website. Seemed legit, and it was pretty straightforward. They asked for the usual stuff:
- My passport details (number, expiry date, etc.)
- My travel dates
- Where I planned to stay in Sri Lanka
- Contact info
- A digital photo of myself
- scans of my passport’s bio page.
I gathered all my documents. I made sure my passport had plenty of time left before it expired – more than six months, just to be safe. I then filled out the online form. It was pretty intuitive, just a bunch of boxes to type into and some drop-down menus. Nothing too complicated, thankfully.
I double-checked, and then triple-checked, all the information I entered. Seriously, you don’t want to mess this up. Typos can cause all sorts of headaches.
Then came the payment. It was not very cheap, but I used my credit card. The site seemed secure enough, with the usual padlock icon in the address bar. I hit the “submit” button and got a confirmation email almost immediately. It said my application was being processed.
The Waiting Game
The website said it usually takes a few days to get the e-visa, but mine came through in less than 24 hours. It was a PDF attachment in an email. I printed out a couple of copies – one for my carry-on bag and one for my checked luggage, just in case. And I also saved a copy on my phone.
Arrival in Sri Lanka
When I arrived in Sri Lanka, I headed straight to the immigration line. I showed the officer my passport and the printed copy of my e-visa. They stamped my passport, and that was it! I was in. Super simple.
