Okay, here’s my attempt at a blog post about trying to document 100 German foods, written in the style you requested:

So, I had this kinda crazy idea the other day. I’m a big fan of German food, you know, the hearty, stick-to-your-ribs kind of stuff. And I thought, “Why not try to list out 100 different German foods?” Seemed simple enough at first… boy, was I wrong!
The Beginning – Easy Peasy
I started off strong. I mean, who doesn’t know the basics? I jotted down:
- Bratwurst – Duh.
- Schnitzel – Of course.
- Pretzels – Gotta have ’em.
- Sauerkraut – My grandma makes the best.
- Spätzle – Cheesy goodness.
I was feeling pretty good, knocking those out. I even remembered some of the regional stuff, like Black Forest Cake (Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte) and those little potato dumplings (Kartoffelklöße). My list grew pretty quickly, I was on fire! Probably around 20-30 dishes, it all came pouring in.
Hitting the Wall (of Sausage)
Then… it got tougher. I mean, there are SO many types of Wurst! I put down “Currywurst” because, hey, that’s a classic street food. But then I started thinking, “Wait, is every different sausage a separate item?” I mean, there’s Thüringer Rostbratwurst, Nürnberger Rostbratwurst, and like, a million others. That’s where I really started to struggle to get new, unique foods.
I browsed some german food blogs, try to dig out something special and not just similar sausages.
Getting Resourceful
I started digging around. I have a couple of German cookbooks, so I flipped through those. I also hit up the internet, of course. I found some lists online, but a lot of them were just repeating the same stuff. I wanted to find those more obscure, less well-known dishes. The home-style meals that people actually eat, not just the tourist stuff.
Found some intresting ones like:
- Labskaus – A mix potato with meat, sounds not bad.
- Grünkohlfahrt – Cabbage and pork belly, looks tasty.
My list slowly grew larger and larger, but not reaching 100 yet.
The Long Haul (Still Not at 100!)
It’s been, I don’t know, a few days now? I’m still adding to the list whenever I think of something or stumble across a new dish. I asked my German friend, Helga, for help. She gave me a few more ideas, mostly things her Oma used to make. Getting closer, I add those immediately!
I’ve learned a lot about German cuisine during this little experiment. It’s way more diverse than I initially realized. There are so many regional variations and different ways of preparing things. I think i got around 85 now.

I’m not giving up, though! I’m determined to hit that 100 mark. It might take me a while, but I’ll get there. Maybe I’ll even try to cook some of these dishes along the way. That’ll be a whole other adventure… Wish me luck!
