Okay, so I’ve been seeing deer everywhere lately. Like, not just in the woods, but crossing the road in front of my car, in my backyard munching on my flowers (grrr!), even just standing on the edge of the park while I was walking my dog. It felt like more than just coincidence, you know? So, I started to wonder if it meant something. I mean, I’m not super into the whole “spirit animal” thing, but it got me curious.

First, I just started noticing them more consciously. I paid attention to how they moved, how they looked at me (or didn’t look at me), and the general vibe I got from them. I kept a little notebook and just jotted down my observations after each encounter. Stuff like, “Saw a doe and two fawns this morning. Felt peaceful.” Or, “Buck stared me down while I was driving – felt a little unnerved, honestly!”
Then, I did what anyone would do – I turned to my phone. I just started searching stuff, things like, “deer symbolism” or “deer spirit animal.” It pulled up a bunch of articles, some helpful, some… not so much. A lot of them talked about grace, gentleness, intuition, and new beginnings. That kind of resonated, given some stuff I’m going through in my life right now.
I kept reading and learning, and I started to see connections between the “traditional” meanings of deer and what I was feeling during those encounters. For example, the time I felt unnerved by the buck? I realized I was also feeling a lot of anxiety about a big decision I had to make. Maybe the buck was a reminder to be strong and trust my instincts, even if it felt scary.
Putting it all together
- Observation: I started by simply observing the deer and noting my feelings and reactions.
- Research: Then, I started the resreach to get some basic understanding.
- Reflection: Finally, I connected the symbolic meanings with my personal experiences.
It’s still a work in progress. I’m not saying I’m suddenly a deer whisperer or anything. But it’s been a cool way to connect with nature and maybe learn a little bit more about myself in the process. I’m still seeing deer everywhere, but now I’m paying attention in a different way. I keep a note on my phone open, recording the time, place, and any thoughts or feelings that come up. It is kind of like my own little “deer diary.” Maybe some time I will have something amazing to share.
