Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try a close-up photoshoot for a while now. I just think they look so cool and intimate, you know? So, I finally decided to just go for it today.

Getting Started
First things first, I grabbed my camera.I don’t have any fancy, pro-level stuff, just a decent DSLR that I’m pretty comfortable with. Then, I needed a subject. My cat was looking particularly majestic lounging in the sunbeam, so, perfect volunteer!
Setting Up
I didn’t bother with any special lighting or backdrops. It was all about keeping it simple and natural. I just positioned myself near the window to get that nice, soft light.
- Find good lighting – near a window is great.
- Choose subject – My cat.
- Simple background – nothing too distracting.
The Shoot
Then came the fun part – actually taking the photos! I started by getting really close.I mean, really close.I played around with different angles.I tried getting down low, shooting from above, and even tilting the camera a bit to see what would happen.

I switched to manual focus to really nail the sharpness on my cat’s eyes. Took me a few tries to get it just right, but it was worth it. The eyes are so important in close-ups, they really draw you in.
Review and Edit
After snapping a bunch of shots, I uploaded them to my computer to see what I had.
Honestly, most of them were pretty bad. Blurry, weird angles, cat looking totally derpy – you name it. But, there were a few gems in there! I picked out the best ones and did some very basic editing.Just bumped up the contrast a little and sharpened things up. Nothing too crazy.

Finally
I’m pretty stoked with how a couple of them turned out! It’s definitely something I want to experiment with more. Maybe next time I’ll try it with a human subject, or even some cool textures and objects.
This is very interesting and I can’t wait to pratice more.
