Okay, so I’ve been trying to do this whole “reduce my carbon footprint” thing. It sounds fancy, but really it’s just about trying to be less of a burden on the planet, you know?

Getting Started
First, I started by looking at where I was actually using the most energy. It’s kind of embarrassing, but I never really thought about it before. I just paid the bills and went on with my life.
So, I dug up my old utility bills – electricity and gas, mostly. I also thought about my driving habits, because, well, car emissions are a big deal.
The “Easy” Wins
- Switched to LED lightbulbs. Seriously, this is the easiest thing anyone can do. It took like, an hour to swap out most of the bulbs in my apartment.
- Started being more mindful of turning off lights when I leave a room. My mom would be so proud.
- Tried to unplug stuff when I’m not using it. Phone chargers, toasters, that kind of thing. I’m still working on this one, I admit.
The Slightly Harder Stuff
Then came the things that required a little more effort, and, let’s be honest, a little bit of sacrifice.
- Started taking shorter showers. Ugh, I love a long, hot shower, but I’m trying to cut down. Five minutes is the goal, but…baby steps.
- Walked more and driving less.I live close to work, so try to do that as much as possible.
- Tried to eat less meat. I’m not going full vegetarian or anything, but I’m trying to do “Meatless Mondays” and maybe one or two other days a week.
- Looked at my thermostat. It’s cold right now,and I am trying to keep the temperature down and put on a sweater.
Still Figuring It Out
Honestly, it’s a work in progress. I’m not perfect, and I definitely slip up sometimes. But I’m trying, and I think that’s what matters. I’m learning as I go, and finding new ways to make small changes.
It is a little bit at a time.
