Alright, so I’ve been meaning to take some day trips from Lucerne. It’s such a beautiful city, but sometimes you just gotta explore what’s around, you know? So, I did some digging and planned out a few trips. Let me tell you about them.
First up, Mount Rigi
I decided to start with Mount Rigi. I heard it’s called the “Queen of the Mountains,” and who am I to argue with that? Getting there was pretty straightforward. I hopped on a boat from Lucerne, which was an experience in itself. The views of the lake and the surrounding areas were just stunning. I mean, seriously, picture-perfect.
Once I arrived at Vitznau, I took the cogwheel train up the mountain. It’s one of those old-timey trains that chugs along at a leisurely pace. But hey, that just gave me more time to soak in the scenery. And let me tell you, the views from the top were breathtaking. I could see for miles! There were also some hiking trails up there. I walked around to find a nice spot and had a picnic lunch with a view. I felt like I was on top of the world.
Next, Mount Titlis
Next on my list was Mount Titlis. I’d heard about the revolving cable car, the “Titlis Rotair,” and I knew I had to check it out. So, I took a train from Lucerne to Engelberg, which was a pleasant ride through the Swiss countryside. From Engelberg, it was a series of gondolas and cable cars to get to the top of Titlis.
The Titlis Rotair was the final leg of the journey, and it was awesome. The car slowly rotated as we ascended, giving us 360-degree views of the surrounding peaks. Once at the top, I explored the glacier cave, walked across the “Titlis Cliff Walk” which is Europe’s highest suspension bridge, and even played in the snow at the snow park. It was a bit chilly up there, but totally worth it.
Last but not least, Bürgenstock
Finally, I decided to visit the Bürgenstock Resort. This place is a bit more upscale, but I figured I’d treat myself. I took a boat from Lucerne to Kehrsiten-Bürgenstock and then rode the funicular up to the resort. It’s one of those fancy, old-fashioned railways. Very cool.
The resort itself is perched high above Lake Lucerne, and the views are amazing. I spent some time wandering around the property, checking out the shops and restaurants. I also took a walk along the “Felsenweg” which is a cliff path with incredible views. It’s not for the faint of heart, but it’s definitely an experience. The most remarkable part was the Hammetschwand Lift, it is the highest exterior elevator in Europe, and it shot me up even higher for even more spectacular views. It was a great way to end my day trips from Lucerne.
All in all, I had a blast exploring the areas around Lucerne. Each trip offered something different, and I made some great memories. If you ever find yourself in Lucerne, I highly recommend taking a few day trips to see what else the region has to offer.
