Okay, so the other day I was craving something different, something, you know, not your usual burger or pizza. And then it hit me – I’m gonna make a Beirute! Now, I’d heard about these things, but never actually tried making one myself. It’s basically a Lebanese take on a sandwich, kinda like a shawarma but with its own twist.

First, I went to a store to buy a bunch of stuff. I needed the right kind of bread, something flat and round. Then, the meat – I went with chicken ’cause that’s what I had at home, but you can use beef too. Marinating the meat is key, so I just dumped it in a bowl with some spices I found in the kitchen, a bit of olive oil, and let it sit for a while. You want those flavors to really soak in, right?

    My Grocery List

  • Flatbread
  • Chicken
  • Spices (whatever I had)
  • Olive oil
  • Veggies (tomatoes, lettuce, onions)
  • Some kind of sauce (I used a garlic one)

While the chicken was doing its thing, I chopped up some veggies – tomatoes, lettuce, onions, the usual. The Beirute I saw online had lots of veggies, so I figured the more the merrier. Then, I cooked the chicken. It smelled amazing, by the way, all those spices really did their job.

Putting it all together was the fun part. I warmed up the flatbread, slapped on some garlic sauce I found at the store – a Beirute’s gotta have some kind of sauce, right? – then piled on the chicken and all those veggies. Folded it up, and bam, there it was, my very own homemade Beirute.

It was messy, it was huge, and it was absolutely delicious. Way better than I expected, to be honest. Definitely making this again. Maybe next time I’ll try beef, or add some different veggies, or maybe even make my own sauce. The possibilities are endless, right?
