Okay, so this morning I was feeling adventurous and decided to try making a Danish breakfast. I’d seen pictures of these amazing spreads online and thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I’m no chef, but I figured it couldn’t be that hard, right?

Getting Started
First things first, I needed to figure out what actually goes into a traditional Danish breakfast. I did a bit of searching on the web. So much good stuff to try, from pastries, bread, cheese and more.
From the picture, I decided to make some simple ones that I can quickly make.
The Prep Work
I grabbed my ingredients. Here’s what made my list:
- Rugbrød (rye bread): The dark, dense kind. Found some at the local bakery.
- Cheese: Sliced some.
- Soft-boiled eggs: Because, protein!
- Jam: Had some homemade strawberry jam in the fridge.
- Coffee: A must-have for any breakfast, Danish or not.
Putting It All Together
I started by brewing the coffee, because that’s the most important part, obviously. While that was going, I sliced the rye bread. It was surprisingly dense – felt like I was cutting through a brick, but in a good way!
Next, I boiled the eggs. I like them a little runny, so I cooked them for about six minutes. While the eggs were cooking, I arranged everything on a plate. Rye bread, cheese slices, some salami. I added small bowls for the butter and jam.

Once the eggs were done, I peeled them (under cold water, of course, to avoid burning my fingers) and added them to the plate.
The Final Result
I poured myself a big mug of coffee, sat down, and dug in. And I have to say, it was pretty darn good! The rye bread was hearty and flavorful, the cheese was the perfect, and the soft-boiled egg added a nice creamy texture. And don’t even get me started on the jam!
It felt like a really satisfying and wholesome way to start the day. Definitely more interesting than my usual bowl of cereal. I might not make this every day, but it’s a fun weekend treat. Now I feel ready to go out!
