Alright, folks, let’s talk about my recent trip and my experience getting through Velana International Airport in the Maldives. I’m not gonna lie, I was a bit nervous beforehand, just because it’s an international airport and I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Getting There and Initial Impressions
First off, getting to the airport was pretty smooth. I took a speedboat from my resort, which was an experience in itself! The views were amazing. When I arrived, the airport looked modern, I got that island vibe instantly, even in the airport.
Check-in and Security
I headed straight for the check-in counters. My airline had a designated area, and thankfully, the lines weren’t too bad. I checked in my luggage, got my boarding pass – standard stuff. The staff were friendly, which always helps calm the nerves.
Next up, security. I always get a little anxious about this part, but it was pretty straightforward. I took off my shoes, belt, put my liquids in a separate bag, and walked through the scanner. No issues there, phew!
Exploring the Airport
After security, I had some time to kill before my flight. So, I started to look around what the airport had to offer. There are a bunch of duty-free shops, which is great if you want to pick up some last-minute souvenirs or gifts.
- I saw stores selling perfume, alcohol, chocolates, and local crafts.
- There were also a few restaurants and cafes. I grabbed a coffee and a sandwich, just to keep me going.
Boarding and Departure
Finally, it was time to board. The boarding process was organized – they called passengers by rows, which made things less chaotic. I found my seat on the plane, stowed my carry-on bag, and settled in for the flight.

Overall, my experience at Velana International Airport was better than I expected. It was easy to navigate, clean, and not overly crowded. It was the smooth ending to my trip in Maldives. And now I have new experience about the airport to tell everyone.
