My Dubrovnik Trip – What I Actually Did
Alright, so I finally made it to Dubrovnik. Heard loads about it, you know, saw the pictures, Game of Thrones stuff, whatever. Didn’t really have a massive plan, just booked a flight and a small apartment kinda near the Old Town, figured I’d wing it mostly.

Getting there was pretty straightforward. Flew in, grabbed a bus, found my place. First thing I did, honestly, was just dump my bags and go for a walk. Headed straight for the Old Town. Walking through Pile Gate for the first time… yeah, it’s impressive. Big stone walls, shiny streets. Felt like stepping back in time, kinda.
Hitting the High Spots (and getting sweaty)
Walking the Walls was obviously on the list. Went up pretty early, trying to beat the heat, but wow, it still got hot. The views though? Incredible. You see the whole Old Town, the sea, Lokrum island. Took my time, stopped for photos, just soaked it in. Definitely worth the ticket price, even if my legs were complaining afterwards.
Then I spent a lot of time just getting lost in the little streets inside the walls. That was maybe my favorite part. You turn a corner, find a quiet little square, or a cat sleeping on some steps. Found a great little spot for coffee away from the main drag, Stradun. That main street is nice, shiny stone, but super busy.
I did a couple of other things too:
- Went up the Cable Car. Views again, spectacular. You see the whole coastline. Bit pricey maybe, but hey, I was there.
- Took a ferry over to Lokrum Island. Nice little escape. Walked around, saw the peacocks strutting about, found a rocky spot to sit by the water. Good way to spend half a day.
- Ate some seafood. Found a place down a side street, nothing fancy, but the fish was fresh. Drank some local beer. Just enjoyed watching people go by.
So, Yeah…
Didn’t do everything possible, missed some museums and stuff. But I wasn’t trying to tick boxes. Mostly just wanted to wander, see the place, feel the vibe. It’s definitely a beautiful city, no doubt about it. Crowded? Yeah, especially mid-day on the main routes. But still managed to find quieter moments. Overall, a solid trip. Glad I went.
