Okay, so yesterday I was messing around with some astrology stuff, purely for fun, you know? I’m not like, a believer, but it’s a fun way to kill time and think about things. The date was December 12th, so I figured, “Hey, let’s see what the horoscope says for that day!”
First thing I did was just a simple Google search: “horoscope for dec 12”. A bunch of those free daily horoscope sites popped up, the usual suspects. I clicked on a few, just skimming to see what they said for each sign. Honestly, they were all pretty generic – stuff like “expect some surprises” or “focus on your relationships”. Super vague, right?
Then I thought, “This is boring. I want something more… personalized.” So, I decided to try and generate my own horoscope using some AI tools I’ve been playing around with. I’ve been dabbling in using GPT-3 (from OpenAI) for creative writing and other stuff, and I figured it might be cool to see if it could whip up some custom horoscopes.
Here’s what I did:
- I gave GPT-3 a prompt that included the date (December 12th), the astrological sign (I tested with a few different signs), and some keywords that I associated with that sign. For example, for Sagittarius (since Dec 12 falls in that period), I used keywords like “adventure,” “optimism,” “travel,” and “freedom.”
- I also gave the AI some instructions like, “Write a short, encouraging horoscope for [sign] on December 12th. Focus on [keywords].”
- Then, I ran the prompt and let the AI generate the text.
The first few tries were kinda…meh. The AI was still a little too generic. It was like, “Sagittarius, embrace your adventurous spirit on December 12th.” Okay, yeah, I could have gotten that from any free horoscope site.
So, I started tweaking the prompt. I added more details, like specific planets and their positions on that day (I looked that up online, lol). I also told the AI to be more specific about what kind of “adventure” Sagittarius might experience. I told it to be playful, but also include a hint of caution.
After a few more iterations, I started getting some pretty interesting results. One of the horoscopes for Sagittarius on December 12th said something like, “A spontaneous trip might be in the cards, Sagittarius, but double-check your travel documents! Adventure awaits, but so does bureaucracy if you’re not careful.”
It was way better than the generic stuff! It felt more tailored, and the little touch of caution made it seem more realistic, you know?
I tried this with a few other signs, too, using different keywords and prompt variations. It was a fun experiment! It definitely took some trial and error to get the AI to generate something worthwhile, but it was cool to see what it could come up with.
What did I learn?
- Free horoscopes are usually pretty useless.
- AI can be used to generate more personalized content, but it requires some creative prompting and iteration.
- Astrology is still just a fun way to pass the time, but it’s even more fun when you can make it yourself!
Maybe I’ll try this again sometime with even more detailed astrological data. Who knows, maybe I can start my own AI horoscope service! Just kidding… mostly.
