First thing, I hit the internet. Just started searching around. “Music festivals Middle East,” “Dubai concerts,” “Saudi Arabia music events,” stuff like that. Honestly, finding solid, up-to-date info wasn’t super straightforward at first. Lots of flashy headlines, but getting the real feel for what’s what took some digging.
Getting Started: The Digging Phase
I spent a few evenings just scrolling, reading blogs (like this one, ha!), checking social media feeds. Trying to figure out which ones were actually big deals and which were just, well, smaller gigs. You see names pop up again and again. That’s usually a good sign.
Found out about a few key places. Saudi Arabia seemed to be making a big push with massive events. Dubai, of course, always has stuff going on, maybe more scattered concerts and events rather than one giant weekend fest all the time. Jordan popped up too, with some more indie or traditional fusion things.

Hitting the Ground: First Stop
Decided to aim for one of the big ones first. MDLBEAST Soundstorm in Saudi Arabia kept coming up. The scale looked insane online, almost hard to believe. So, I sorted out the visa, got my ticket, booked a flight to Riyadh.
Getting there was an experience itself. Big crowds, lots of energy. The festival site was massive. Seriously huge. Lots of different stages, big international DJs, but also cool regional artists I’d never heard of. It was loud, flashy, and honestly, pretty well organized for something that big. Spent a couple of days just wandering, soaking it in. It wasn’t just music; it felt like a statement, something new happening.
Next Up: A Different Vibe
After that intensity, I wanted something different. Headed over to Dubai. Now, Dubai doesn’t have one single monster festival like Soundstorm dominates Riyadh in December. It’s more spread out. I caught a couple of events over a week. One was part of a larger cultural festival, blending music with art and fashion. Felt more urban, more integrated into the city vibe. Less isolated desert party, more city hotspot.
Found a smaller gig too, more local electronic music artists. Totally different atmosphere. More intimate, easier to chat with people. It showed me there’s variety. It’s not all just mega-events.
So, What’s the Takeaway?
Exploring the festival scene out there was eye-opening. It’s definitely growing, changing fast. You’ve got these huge, government-backed spectacles, and then you’ve got smaller, more organic things happening too.
Was it easy? Not always. Planning takes effort, you gotta figure out the local norms, transport, all that jazz. But worth it? Yeah, I’d say so. Saw some amazing performances, met interesting folks, and got a totally different perspective than just reading about it online. You just gotta go and do it, really.
