Lake Yerevan Armenia: A must-see attraction in Yerevan

Okay, let me tell you about my trip out to Lake Yerevan. It wasn’t some grand expedition, just something I decided to do one afternoon.

Lake Yerevan Armenia: A must-see attraction in Yerevan

Getting the Idea

So, I was in Yerevan, wandering around, you know how it is. Heard folks talking about this lake, Yerevan Lake, right there in the city, or near enough. Sounded like a decent place to clear my head for a bit. Didn’t really plan much, just thought, “Right, let’s go see this lake.”

Heading Over There

Getting there wasn’t too tricky. I just grabbed a taxi. Could’ve probably figured out a bus, but honestly, sometimes you just want the easy route. The drive itself was pretty standard Yerevan stuff – bit of traffic, buildings zipping by. You could feel the city kinda thinning out as we got closer to the Hrazdan River gorge area where the lake is situated. Wasn’t a long ride, maybe 15-20 minutes from where I was staying downtown.

At the Lake

Alright, so I get there. First impression? It’s… well, it’s a lake. Not massive like Sevan, obviously, but decent sized, especially for being so close to the city center. It’s actually a reservoir, made by damming the Hrazdan River. Found a spot and just kinda walked along the edge for a while. The water looked… okay. Not exactly crystal clear swimming water, you know? More functional looking. Saw some people around, mostly locals I guess, just chilling, a few walking their dogs. It wasn’t crowded, which was nice.

The area around it felt a bit… neglected, maybe? Not run down exactly, but not polished like a tourist park either. More like a place locals know about and use, but isn’t really on the main tourist trail. There are some green spaces, trees here and there. I spent a good hour just walking, then found a bench. Sat there for a bit, watching the water, the occasional bird. It was pretty quiet, actually. A good break from the city noise.

What I did:

  • Walked along the shoreline path.
  • Sat on a bench and just watched the water.
  • Took a few pictures, nothing fancy.
  • Just soaked in the relative quiet.

Final Thoughts

So, was it worth the trip? Yeah, I think so. It’s not a must-see attraction that’ll blow your mind. Don’t go expecting stunning natural beauty or loads of activities. But if you’re in Yerevan and want a quick escape, a place to walk or sit by some water without going far, it does the job. It felt like a real slice of local life, not something put on for show. Just an urban lake, doing its thing. Simple as that. Sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.
