But here’s a crucial step I learned not to skip: reading the reviews. Even if a hotel looks perfectly placed on the map, I always read recent reviews. I specifically look for comments mentioning the attraction. People often say things like “perfect location for visiting X” or “literally stepped out the door and was at Y”. Sometimes, reviews warn you that even though it looks close, there’s a busy road with no crossing, or some other obstacle. The map doesn’t tell you that, but fellow travelers often do.
Comparing and Booking
After finding a couple of good options that were definitely close and had decent reviews confirming the location, I sometimes quickly checked one or two other major booking sites just to see if the price was wildly different for the same hotel. Usually, it’s pretty similar, but it takes just a minute to check.
Then, I just went ahead and booked it. The peace of mind knowing I was really next door to the main reason for my visit was great. On my last trip, I did this to find a place near a specific theater district, and being able to walk back to the hotel in five minutes after a late show was fantastic.
