Okay, so I was trying to figure out the best time to visit certain places for religious events, right? It was kinda tricky, lemme tell ya.

First, I started with a basic Google search. Like, “major religious holidays calendar” and stuff. I quickly realized that wasn’t gonna cut it. Too general, ya know? I needed specifics, dates, and preferably, locations where these events are, like, really happening.
Then, I thought, “Okay, travel blogs!” Surely, someone has written about their experiences. So, I started digging through travel blogs, focusing on ones that seemed more…authentic, less tourist-trappy. I looked for keywords like “religious festivals,” “spiritual journeys,” and “pilgrimages.”
Here’s what I did that seemed to work:
- I made a spreadsheet. Seriously, it was the only way to keep track of everything. I had columns for:
- Religion
- Event Name
- Approximate Date (or date range)
- Location (City/Region/Country)
- Source (Blog/Website where I found the info)
- Notes (Anything specific I wanted to remember, like “book accommodation way in advance!”)
- I cross-referenced information. If multiple sources mentioned the same event, I felt more confident about its validity.
- I checked official tourism websites for the regions I was interested in. These usually had information about local festivals and events, sometimes even religious ones.
- I looked for specific religious communities online. Many have websites or forums where they announce events open to the public.
It took me a while, but I started to get a pretty good overview. Like, I learned that if I wanted to experience a truly massive Kumbh Mela, I needed to plan years in advance! Or that certain Catholic processions in Spain are a really big deal.
Here’s a quick example from my spreadsheet:

Religion: Buddhism
Event Name: Vesak (Buddha’s Birthday)
Approximate Date: May (full moon day)
Location: Lumbini, Nepal; Bodh Gaya, India; Kandy, Sri Lanka
Source: Travel blog “Wanderlust Wonders”

Notes: Expect large crowds; dress respectfully.
The main takeaway? It’s all about the research, man. Don’t just rely on the first thing you see. Dig deep, cross-reference, and plan ahead. Good luck!
