Okay, so someone mentioned this whole “Mars in Virgo” thing the other day, and it got me thinking about how I’ve been tackling stuff lately. It’s not like I follow this stuff super closely, you know, but it clicked with something I just went through.
I decided it was finally time to sort out my old toolbox. Not just tidy it, but really get it right. Like, forever right. That was the plan, anyway.
The Grand Plan Kicks Off
So, I didn’t just dump it out and put things back. Oh no. First, I pulled everything out. Every single screw, nut, bolt, washer. Laid them all out on a drop cloth in the garage. Took ages.
Then came the cleaning phase. I wasn’t just wiping things down. I got out the degreaser, the wire brushes, rags. Each screwdriver, each wrench, pliers – they all got a deep clean. Found myself getting really focused on tiny spots of rust on tools I barely even use. Spent maybe an hour just scrubbing one old wrench.
Next up, the organization part. This is where it got a bit… much.
- I measured the drawers in the toolbox. Multiple times.
- I researched drawer organizers online. For hours. Looking for the perfect fit, the perfect layout.
- I started grouping the tools. Not just “screwdrivers here, wrenches there”. No, it was like: Philips heads, flat heads, small, medium, large. Metric wrenches, SAE wrenches, sorted by size, obviously. Pliers by type: needle-nose, standard, wire cutters… you get the picture.
- I even cleaned the toolbox itself, inside and out, like it was brand new. Polished the damn thing.
Hitting the Wall
Honestly, about halfway through sorting tiny washers into little labeled containers, I just stopped. Looked at the mess. Looked at the clock. It was getting ridiculous. I’d spent basically a whole Saturday on this, and I wasn’t even close to done. My back hurt from bending over, and I was getting cranky.
Started thinking, “Why am I doing this? It’s a toolbox!” I got annoyed at myself for being so picky. Like, who cares if the 8mm and 10mm wrenches are in exactly the right spot in the perfect little holder? It felt like the drive to get it done (that’s the Mars part, I guess?) was getting tangled up in this need for everything to be absolutely flawless (and that’s the Virgo bit hitting, yeah?). It wasn’t productive anymore; it was just… obsessive.
Wrapping It Up (Finally)
So, I took a breath. Decided “good enough” had to be the new goal. I finished sorting, but skipped some of the super-detailed stuff I’d planned. Put the tools back in the generally correct places in the organizers I eventually just bought from the local hardware store. Didn’t polish every single tool again.
End result? The toolbox is way better organized than it was. Massively better. I can actually find things now. Is it the perfect, surgically precise layout I first envisioned? Nope. Not even close. But it works. It’s practical.
It was a weird process. That energy, that drive to fix and perfect, it’s useful sometimes. Definitely gets things done, and done well. But man, you gotta keep an eye on it. It can really spin you out on tiny details that don’t matter that much in the long run. Took me a whole weekend to figure that out for a simple toolbox. Just gotta know when to say, “Alright, that’s good enough,” and move on.
