Alright, let me tell you about trying to figure out springtime in Denver, specifically April. It’s a whole thing, seriously.
I remember this one time, a few years back. It was mid-April. Woke up, sun’s blasting, birds are chirping – you know the deal. Felt like maybe, just maybe, winter was finally packing its bags. I got all ambitious. Thought, perfect day to finally tackle the yard work I’d been putting off. Dragged out the mower, the rakes, all that stuff.
So there I am, sweating a bit, feeling good about getting stuff done. Had my T-shirt on. Neighbors were out too, everyone seemed to have the same idea. It genuinely felt like spring had arrived. I spent a good couple of hours out there.
Then The Turn…
Around lunchtime, I noticed the clouds started looking a bit… gray. A bit thicker than those nice puffy white ones from the morning. Didn’t think much of it at first. Denver does that sometimes, clouds roll in, roll out.
But then, the wind picked up. And it wasn’t that nice warm breeze from the morning. This was cold. Like, really cold, biting wind. Went inside to grab a jacket. By the time I came back out, maybe 10 minutes later? Flakes. Big, wet, sloppy snowflakes started coming down.
Seriously? It went from sunny T-shirt weather to full-on snowing in maybe an hour or two. It wasn’t just a few flakes either. It started coming down hard.
- My freshly raked leaves? Covered in snow.
- The lawn mower? Getting wet.
- My motivation? Gone. Totally gone.
I just stood there for a second, looking at the sky. Had to laugh, really. What else can you do? Packed everything up, dragged it back into the garage. So much for my productive spring day.
And that’s just classic Denver in April for you. You might get sunshine, you might get 70 degrees, or you might get a blizzard. Sometimes all in the same day. You just learn not to put your winter coat away too early, and definitely don’t trust a sunny April morning too much. It’ll fool you every time if you let it.
