Okay, so I recently went through the whole process of getting a US work visa from India, and let me tell you, it was a journey! I thought I’d share my experience here, step-by-step, in case it helps anyone else who’s about to dive into this.
Figuring Out Which Visa I Needed
First things first, I had to figure out what kind of visa I even needed. Turns out, there are a bunch of different types. I scanned, copied, and organized everything until I could do it in my sleep.
Paying the Fees
Next up, the fees. There’s the application fee, the anti-fraud fee, and a couple of others, depending on your situation. My employer took care of those, thankfully. I made sure to keep all the receipts, just in case.
Waiting for Approval
After submitting everything, all I could do was wait. It felt like forever. I was constantly checking the USCIS website for updates. I distracted myself with work and tried not to think about it too much, but it was always in the back of my mind.
Scheduling the Visa Interview
Finally, I got the good news: my petition was approved! But I wasn’t done yet. I had to schedule a visa interview at the US Consulate in my city. I booked the earliest available slot. I started preparing right away, going through possible interview questions and making sure I had all the necessary documents again.
The Visa Interview
The day of the interview, I was super nervous. I got there early, dressed in my best professional outfit. When my turn came, I answered all the questions as honestly and clearly as I could. I talked about my job, my qualifications, and why I wanted to work in the US. The officer asked me a few tough questions, but I kept my cool and gave it my best shot.
Getting the Visa
A few days after the interview, I got the best news ever: my visa was approved! I went to pick up my passport, and there it was, my shiny new US work visa. I felt a mix of excitement and relief. I immediately called my employer and shared the good news. We started planning my move, and I couldn’t wait to start this new chapter.
