Okay, so today I decided to dive into the world of Colombian alcohol. I’ve always been curious about the different types of drinks they have down there, so I figured, why not give it a shot? (Pun intended!)

The Research Phase
First things first, I hit up the internet. I wanted to see what the most popular drinks were. I started with a simple search and quickly found a bunch of articles and blog posts talking about Aguardiente, Rum, and some local beers.
- Aguardiente: Apparently, this is like the national drink. It’s anise-flavored, and everyone seems to love it (or at least tolerate it!).
- Rum: Colombia produces some world-renowned rum, so I definitely needed to check that out.
- Local Beers: I’m always up for trying new beers, so I added a few popular brands to my list.
Getting My Hands on the Goods
Now, the fun part – actually finding these drinks! I went to a couple of local liquor stores, I asked around for “Colombian alcohol”, sometime I was successful, other times, not so much.
The Tasting
I finally have my hand on some of those drinks, I invited a few friends over, put on some Colombian music, and we started the tasting.
- First one was Aguardiente, which is really strong at first.
- Then a few local beers, they are surprisingly good.
Honestly, it was a blast! We tried a few different cocktails with the Aguardiente, I even made a makeshift “Canelazo” (which is normally served hot, but I did a cold version). It’s a really fun drink.
Final Thoughts
So, that was my little Colombian alcohol adventure. I learned a lot, tried some new things, and had a great time. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try if you’re ever looking to explore different drinks. It’s a whole different flavor profile, and it’s always fun to step outside your comfort zone!
