Okay, so I wanted to find that iconic “Route 66 Begin” sign in Chicago. You know, the one you always see in pictures? I figured it couldn’t be that hard to find, right? Wrong! It took a little more digging than I expected.

First Attempts
I started by just wandering around downtown Chicago, hoping I’d stumble upon it. I mean, it’s a famous landmark, it should be obvious! I walked around for a good hour, asked a few people, but no luck. Everyone just kind of shrugged.
Getting Smarter
Then, I got a little smarter. I pulled out my phone and did some Googling. I found some vague directions, mentioning it was near a certain intersection and close to some art institute. Okay, that’s something to work with.
Narrowing It Down
Armed with this new information, I headed towards the general area. I spent some more time walking up and down streets, checking every corner. Still frustratingly sign-less. I started to feel a little silly, like I was on some kind of scavenger hunt.
Finally!
Finally, success! There is was. I was taking pictures of the sign.
I snapped a bunch of photos, feeling pretty accomplished. It’s a classic shot, and I was happy to finally have it in my collection.

My Tips If you Want to take photos
- Do your research beforehand: Don’t be like me and wander aimlessly. Look up the exact location online.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help: Even if the first few people you ask don’t know, someone will!
- Enjoy the moment: It’s a cool piece of Americana, so take your time and get the perfect shot!
So, that’s the story of how I finally found the Route 66 sign in Chicago. It wasn’t as easy as I thought, but hey, that made the victory even sweeter!
