Alright, let’s talk about my trip to Corsica. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, and boy, was it an adventure!
Getting Started: Booking and Arrival
First things first, I booked a flight and a little Airbnb near Bonifacio. I opted for a place with a kitchen because, well, I like to cook, and I heard eating out in Corsica can be pricey.
When I arrived, I picked up my rental car – a tiny Fiat 500, which turned out to be perfect for those narrow, winding roads. Seriously, driving in Corsica is not for the faint of heart!
Exploring Bonifacio
Bonifacio itself is stunning. The old town is perched on these massive white cliffs, and the views are just insane. I spent a whole day just wandering around, getting lost in the little streets, and soaking it all in.
- Checked out the Citadel: It’s a must-see, of course. Lots of history there, and the views from the top are breathtaking.
- Took a boat tour: I hopped on one of those boat tours that take you around the cliffs and into the caves. Totally worth it! The water is so clear and blue.
- Stumbled upon a tiny beach: I found this little secluded beach down some stairs – I think it was called Plage de Sutta Rocca. Perfect for a quick dip.
Hitting the Road: Beaches and Mountains
After Bonifacio, I decided to explore the rest of the island. My trusty little Fiat and I headed north.
- Palombaggia Beach: Okay, this beach is famous for a reason. White sand, turquoise water – it’s like something out of a postcard. I spent a whole afternoon there, just relaxing and swimming.
- Santa Giulia Beach: Another gorgeous beach, a bit more sheltered than Palombaggia. I tried some paddleboarding there – not very successfully, I might add.
- Aiguilles de Bavella: I drove up into the mountains to see these crazy rock formations. The drive was a bit terrifying, but the views were incredible. I even did a short hike.
- L’Ospedale Forest: I will arrive at a lake. Then, I took a little rest in the shade.
Food, Glorious Food
Of course, I ate my way through Corsica. I will try these:
- Tried the local cheese: I bought some Brocciu from a market – it’s a kind of whey cheese, really fresh and tasty.
- Ate all the seafood: I had some amazing grilled fish in a little restaurant by the sea.
- Indulged in charcuterie: The cured meats in Corsica are fantastic. I picked up some coppa and lonzu and made sandwiches for my hikes.
Wrapping Up
My trip to Corsica was a whirlwind of stunning scenery, delicious food, and slightly terrifying drives. I loved the mix of beaches and mountains, and I definitely want to go back and explore some more. If you’re thinking about visiting, I say go for it! Just be prepared for those roads!
